How To Enjoy Your Own Company
How To Enjoy Your Own Company
Many people usually feel lonely when they are
alone and are dependent on being with others in order to have a great time. I
know some may think oh these people are classed as introverts or extroverts,
i.e. those who like to be around others and vice versa. However you can be an
extrovert and still enjoy being alone.
I love to be around people, meeting new
people doesn’t scare me or even being alone. I love being able to spend time
with “me”. When I tell people that they tend to respond saying, well thats a
given because you are always in the eye, being asked for advice, coaching or
giving speeches, workshops what have you.
However this isn't necessarily true,
because growing up I was the same. I came from a big family, so I appreciated
the family time and the alone time alike. I would use my time reading books or
getting creative, I would love to write short stories, or make little
accessories for my room, or even do some art work. Many of you may be thinking
so how do I actually sit and enjoy my weekend alone than always be dependent on
someone to take the lead. I will share some tips with you on how to enjoy your
own company, and the key is to actually love being around “YOU”.
Tips on how to enjoy your own company….
1. Before we begin this doesn’t mean you are destined to be a loner, it just means you love yourself so much that you actually like spending time with YOU. The key to that is first appreciating who you are and what you do. If you don’t appreciate yourself how can you want to be around yourself.
2. Plan your evenings or weekends in advance. Planning has an huge impact. This doesn’t mean staying indoors the whole time. It means even planning to go out alone, checking out places that you wouldn't need anyones approval for. For example some people might not want to check out that gallery or event of your choice. So whats wrong with going alone? Chances are you might make new friends or actually have fun that you don’t need anyones opinions or judgemental remarks over your choices.
3. Is there something that you are actually passionate about and haven't been able to look into due to too much socialising and wasting your time of not focusing yourself? They say you are the people you spend time around with. So maybe grow your passion and start venturing to meet new people. You will be amazed at the people you meet or how creative you become by dedicating some time to yourself a week to research the things you love.
4. As much I love Netflix and my Pakistani Drama series, I wouldn't say make this a habit where you don’t get to complete your work. But sitting and just binge watching without anyone wanting to watch something else that you don’t like can be a treat on its own. I love having the TV for myself without my daughter or husband getting in the way and actually watching in peace!
5. Sitting and learning something new on your own is not only enlightening but it grows your mind and you can even gain a new qualification, there are hundreds of many online courses that can grow you as an individual and help your career. As well as books are a great gateway to knowledge or just mesmerise yourself in a novel trust me you wont ever feel alone!
6. Love life in itself and you will always enjoy each moment, and the best way to do that is to live in the now and appreciate the present.
The best part about being alone is that you really don't have to answer to anybody. You do what you want.” - Justin Timberlake
